Centenary Exhibition: Dr. Murray Levick, local hero

Dr. Murray Levick (later Surgeon Cmdr RN) served on Captain Scott's Last expedition as a medical doctor and was a member of what became known as the Northern Party. The Northern Party faced adventures as great as any in the heroic age, including over-wintering in an ice cave at Inexpressible Island, with few supplies. They all survived. He later wrote a groundbreaking study of Adelie Penguins, the first serious monograph on the species.

Murray Levick went on to serve in World War I,to pioneer medical treatments for the disabled, to found the British Schools Exploring Society (BSES) and to give lessons in survival techniques to commandos in World War II.

He lived for the latter part of his life in Budleigh Salterton and this exhibition in its local Fairlynch Museum, will pay tribute to Murray Levick, his life and work.

This exhibition was so popular in 2011, that it is running again through the summer of 2012. It will close on 30 September.
