Centenary Exhibition: The Race to the Pole
To celebrate the centenary of Captain Scott's last expedition aboard the Dundee built Whaler, 'Terra Nova', and the famous race to the Pole that ensued with the Norwegian, Roald Amundsen, Captain Scott's first famous ship, 'Discovery', is hosting a centenary exhibition at her home in Dundee.
The show features stunning images of the 'Terra Nova', sledging parties, penguins and portaits of the men including highly emotional photographs of the Polar party at the South Pole. Many are incredibly well-known, iconic images by Herbert Ponting, the most famous of all Antarctic photographers.
There will be showcases of archives and objects from the Trust's collections including an Emperor Penguin brought back by the Expedition, the remains of a cake sent to Captain Oates, wood from the 'Terra Nova' wardroom, a pony snow shoe and poignant souveniers relating to the death of Scott and his four companions.
