Scott's Welsh Supper
This supper, taking place in the Centenary year of Captain Scott`s race for the South Pole, commemorates the dinner given on 13 June 1910 to Captain Robert Falcon Scott CVO, RN and to Officers and Scientists of the British Antarctic Expedition, prior to their departure from Cardiff on 15 June 1910,. The dinner was held at the Royal Hotel, Cardiff in what is now the preserved Captain Scott room. Recently, this menu was re-created in the same room by chef Spiro Borg and featured on the BBC`s `One Show` along with comedian Arthur Smith as he joined the Captain Scott Society to sample this Edwardian feast.
In line with the ethos of the Abergavenny Food Festival and as part of it`s Fringe events all the produce for the menu is from Wales.
This supper is supporting the work of the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) based in Usk and the St Michael`s Centre Volunteer project which is setting up a Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme to encourage a new spirit of adventure in Abergavenny. Speakers include Rachel Morgan, Director of the UKAHT - 'Running the penguin Post Office'.
Each guest will receive a Port Lockroy canvas bag with a copy of the commemorative programme produced for the Scott Centenary service held in St Paul`s Cathedral on 29 March 2012.
