Edward Wilson: Day of Thanksgiving

Edward Wilson of the Antarctic was born in Cheltenham in July 1872. He taught himself many of his famous natural history and artistic skills on his mother's farm, The Crippetts, near to Leckhampton, Cheltenham. He died on the return from the South Pole with Captain Scott in March 1912.

To celebrate the finding of the bodies of Wilson, Scott and Bowers and their burial in the Antarctic on 12 November 1912, a day of thanksgiving events will be held in and around Cheltenham on Saturday 10th November.

1330 – Unveiling of a Civic Society Blue Plaque at The Crippetts

1350 – Walk to St. Peter’s Church, Leckhampton

1415 – Thanksgiving Service conducted by Rev Paul Wilkinson

1500 – Re-dedication at the Wilson grave (the headstone to Edward Wilson's paretns carries a memorial to him, also)

1515 – Tea, including viewing of an exhibition from local museums

1600 - close

All events are open to interested members of the public at no charge.
